WEGEMT visited the Global Ship Systems Centre (GSSC) of the Classification society ABS in Greece on 03 July 2019.
Top on the agenda of the meeting was the topic of new technologies, especially those that have a game-changing effect in the next years and for which the maritime industry is not yet prepared in terms of technical capabilities, technological services and training.
Dr. Ioannis Ergas (Research Director at WEGEMT) met with Dr. Chris Leontopoulos (Director of the ABS GSSC), Mr. Stamatis Fradelos (ABS Business Development Director), and Mr. Lefteris Karaminas (ABS Advisory Services Manager) to discuss various matters on future research activities, innovation, higher education & training related to the maritime industry. Dr Ergas also disseminated results from the European research projects in which WEGEMT is currently involved (MATES, TRAVISIONS2020, IMPRESSIVE, BE OPEN, SKILLFUL, DRIVE2THEFUTURE)
Through this visit, WEGEMT will be able to convey valuable messages to the Academia in Europe on the real needs of the maritime industry with respect to higher education & training.
