WEGEMT held its annual General Assembly (GA) and its Executive Committee (EC) meeting on 14th November 2023 in Delft, hosted by Delft University of Technology (TU Delft).
WEGEMT Associates from major marine European Universities gathered, physically and online, to discuss various important matters such as the WEGEMT future strategy, the latest developments at the WATERBORNE TP, Horizon Europe next calls, WEGEMT involvement in collaborative research projects (MARI4_YARD, PANACEA, LASTING, TRA2024, DT4GS, FLEXSHIP, PreMETS, LH2CRAFT, NH3CRAFT, SAFECRAFT, NEXTFUEL, ESY), as well as administrative issues.
This year’s GA and EC meeting also dealt with the elections of the Board of Directors since the mandate of Prof. Peilin Zhou from the University of Strathclyde (UK) came to its end after a very successful leadership period. Prof. Peilin Zhou was the one who, during the challenging (covid-19) years 2019-2021, represented WEGEMT and consequently the European academic community, at the Waterborne TP Board of directors and contributed to the work for the establishment of the Co-Programmed Partnership Zero Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT).
The new Chairman of WEGEMT is Prof. Carlos Guedes Soares, a distinguished Professor from the Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal) and the Scientific Coordinator of the Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering. He is also on the Stanford University and Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list of the top-10 most influential scientists in 2022, and for his exceptional career-long impact too.
