On 30 April 2026, WEGEMT was pleased to be present at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens for the high-level meeting on the implementation of the European Industrial Maritime Strategy and the European Ports Strategy.

Organised by the Waterborne Technology Platform, in cooperation with the Eugenides Foundation and under the auspices of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, the event brought together key stakeholders from across Europe’s waterborne ecosystem, including representatives from industry, shipping, ports, research, education, and policymaking.

With keynote contributions from Apostolos Tzitzikostas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, and Eliza Vozemberg MEP, Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism, the meeting highlighted the urgent need for coordinated action to strengthen Europe’s maritime competitiveness, sustainability, and technological leadership.

As a proud member of the Waterborne Technology Platform, WEGEMT remains actively engaged at the heart of the conversations shaping the future of the European maritime sector. From innovation and maritime technology to skills, training, quality jobs, and the green and digital transition, WEGEMT continues to support collaboration between academia, industry, and policy.

The discussions in Athens reaffirmed the importance of bringing the entire waterborne value chain together to turn European strategies into concrete action — supporting shipbuilding, ports, short sea shipping, ferries, insularity, maritime technologies, and the wider blue economy.
